One of the biggest tourist attractions, and a place that draws in visitors to Maldon is Promenade Park. But how did this impressive area come into being, what is the history, and what makes it so special?
Maldon’s Prom Park was first opened to the Edwardian public in 1895, where visitors of the time could walk, fish, go boating, and generally have a good time. Situated on the banks of the river Blackwater, visitors can enjoy the view and watch boats sailing up and down the river.
The park had an impressive salt water swimming lake which due to the death of a swimmer was filled in and replaced with a fenced off lake that is home to a number of ducks and swans. There are areas for children to play on swings and roundabouts as well as a maze, the park also includes a zipwire, a new galleon play area, and a water splash park .
For Skateboarders there is a skatepark along with a biking BMX track. Also in the park is a model boating lake that also doubles as an area to go crabbing.Once visitors have had enough activities and fresh air, there are plenty of food kiosks and ice cream parlours to rejuvenate the body ready for more fun.
If you walk to the end of the park, you will find yourself in Hythe Quay, which is the port that barges dock into when entering Maldon. The Hythe area is also home to two pubs restaurants for extra refreshment.
