No visit to Maldon would be complete without visiting The Hythe Quay which is the home of a number of sailing barges, the Hythe was originally a seperate port that served Maldon and transported goods and cargo up the river to Chelmsford and onto London.

The Hythe is very different now, but still has a number of impressive barges that now serve visitors with sight seeing trips. Visitors can now enjoy the view and have a drink (or two) in the pubs nearby – The Jolly Sailor and the Queens Head.

The Hythe skyline is also dominated by St Mary’s church which dates from the 12th century and was used by Sailors to guide themselves into the Hythe quay.
